“ We stopped here on our way to Dauphin Island. Being from Texas, we like to try BBQ everywhere we go. The Smokey Pit did not disappoint. We had some of the best beef ribs we have ever had. The owner was gracious and very knowledgeable about smoking meat. My husband loved talking to him and they have some awesome antique items around the dining room. We will go back to this place. “ HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This place is a hidden gem. We happened upon them a couple of weeks ago and it was an awesome experience. I had the best meal I’ve had in a long time - pulled pork, mac & cheese, baked beans. Big portions too! And it was so much fun! The owner & his family gave us a tour of the place & it was full of fun. There was a little alcove with chairs, books & a piano in the front, a nice bar & dining area, pool table & vintage jukeboxes, radios, tv & cigarette machine. Outside is a picnic area with a stage. The Smoking Gun Smoker is a sight to behold as are the animal shaped ones. If I ever get to Baton Rouge, this is the first place I want to stop! ”

“ I stopped by The Smoky Pit in Baton Rouge this past Saturday on a spontaneous trip because I was craving some beef ribs—and they did not disappoint. The ribs were full of flavor, tender, and done just right. No complaints at all. I also had the jambalaya and green beans, and both were seasoned well and hit the spot. When I walked in, the owner greeted me and asked if I was hungry. I said, “Heck yeah,” and the smell of smoked meat in the air instantly made me stay. I originally planned to get my food to-go, but after he showed me around, I decided to eat in. The setup is solid—pool tables, video games, a bar area, and even what looked like a stage for karaoke or live music. Outside, there’s a patio with more seating and mini golf, which is perfect for a chill night. Since it was late in the day, my beef rib was on the smaller side, but the owner made up for it by adding some pulled pork to my plate. That gesture showed he appreciated my business, and I respected that. If I had to point out anything, it’d be that it was a bit warm inside. If they got the AC flowing a little better, the spot would be perfect. • Food: 9/10 • Atmosphere: 8.5/10 (only because of the heat) • Experience: 10/10 The food is fire and the prices are fair. I also found out they serve beef ribs every day, but they sell out fast same with the brisket. Next time I’m definitely grabbing the ribs again and trying that smoked catfish. This place is worth checking out if you’re in the area. ”
